Welcome to the FREE MIDI Sampling Bundle.

We've set out to assemble all the plugins and instruments necessary for a true MIDI sampling workflow. Starring our flagship MIDI Sampler, reMIDI 2.

WHAT YOU GET IN THE BUNDLE:

FL Studio 20 / Cubase 11  - Free Templates

In this completely free bundle you get an FL Studio 20 and a Cubase 11 template that features the reMIDI 2 Free Trial, which can later be replaced by your paid copy of reMIDI 2, should you decide to delve deeper.

One reMIDI to rule them all:

In the template projects, (more DAWs supported in the future) reMIDI 2 appears only once. This is because all the MIDI tracks and channels in reMIDI 2 are filtered and redirected by reChannel to the VSTs of your choice; in this case, SW Instruments.

The supporting actor, or middle-man in this setup is reChannel. A MIDI effect VST that filters, transposes, and re-assigns notes in MIDI channels. Let's use examples to illustrate the signal flow:

Assume we want to sync up notes from a MIDI file to play on two separate instruments at the same time.

Consider this counter-example -- the motivation for this MIDI sampling bundle.

  1. Load two reMIDI 2's; name them appropriately, and load them with the same Hymn MIDI file from reMIDI 2's Factory MIDI collection.
  2. Load a Piano and a Bass VST instrument on two more tracks in your DAW.
  3. Use the DAWs MIDI routing mechanism to connect the reMIDI 2's to their respective VSTi's.
  4. In each reMIDI 2 instance, filter out the unneeded MIDI notes for each instrument in the Channel Filter.
  5. Everything armed. Sample away.

Recap. Use Multiple reMIDI 2 instances, all loaded with the same content, and then filter the MIDI by channels in each of the reMIDI 2 instances based on which instruments they're targeting. In other words:  say the piano gets all the high pitch MIDI note channels (in this case channels 1, 2, and 3). The bass instruments gets only channel 4 (the channel with the lowest pitch MIDI note content.. free bass line? Yes please!). But this requires two reMIDI's. Even worse, change one reMIDI and the other becomes stale.

Although it's not a terrible approach, this setup with multiple reMIDI 2's violates the DRY axiom, "Don't Repeat Yourself". So that said, how can we improve this setup? Well why not use a single reMIDI 2 instance with the necessary MIDI content, send out the MIDI on all channels (1,2,3,4), and trust the MIDI will find it's way to the target instruments? Well reChannel is that way, and it's reMIDI 2's good friend for such fancy MIDI channeling reasons.

Introducing reMIDI 2, the follow up to reMIDI that allows you to take MIDI sampling to the next level with its new features. reMIDI 2 is a MIDI effect plugin that samples musical notes from MIDI files that allows you to quickly find, chop, key shift and time-stretch samples and map them to a controller.

reMIDI 2 is a plugin instrument capable of outputting MIDI as well as audio. A simple sine wave synth sound is built in for scratch work, so you can quickly find a loop for export as a MIDI file entirely within it.

The idea is to trigger other instruments via reMIDI, and how this is set up depends on the host DAW. For VST hosts (ie, Ableton Live), reMIDI loads as an instrument plugin onto a MIDI track, the output of which is sent to a second track (hosting the target instrument) using the DAW’s routing system.

For Audio Unit hosts (ie, Logic Pro), the included reMIDI_MFX MIDI effect plugin is loaded up instead. This is identical to the regular reMIDI, but it sits in front of the target instrument on the same track, outputting MIDI directly. It’s certainly the more elegant of the two approaches, although it only captures the raw triggering notes to the track, not the chords output by the plugin.

Each pad is assignable to have its own selected slice from the MIDI file loaded into the pad. You can combine different MIDI files (for melodic/drum MIDI) or record MIDI into pads from reMIDI MIDI input/output.

Now Included with reMIDI 2: SW Jazz Complete MIDI Pack
The complete set contains over 1000 files in 11 volumes. Each volume contains 100 Jazz block chord progressions in MIDI format.

These MIDI files can be dragged into any DAW, but why not just use SongWish’s reMIDI 2, a MIDI sampler VST. reMIDI 2 can load these MIDI files with some convenient features to play and edit them with.

You can animate these block chords with other MIDI utilities such as arpeggiators. Or get your jazz hands-on editing these progressions in your favourite DAW by modifying, adding/removing notes, or even changing the timing.
